Gaelscoil Ó Doghair

A Thuismitheoirí, a chairde,

We have commenced a ‘Name and Shame’ campaign / Feachtas Ainmnigh agus
Aithisigh to monitor classroom and staff room bins. An Coiste Glas
carry out spot checks to ensure that the recycling and organic bins
are being utilised properly throughout the school. The results are
displayed publicly in the halla.

Each family will receive a bosca ceallraí /battery recycling box on
Monday 23ú. Please fill this box with used batteries and return to the
school’s battery recycling centre. We hope to make this a long-term
programme and so will continue to collect used batteries throughout
the year.

An Coiste Glas would like to thank all of you who participated in the
Bird Feeding Project. We now have a great collection of beathadáin
éan/bird feeders; all made from recycled products. They are proving
very successful and birds can be seen regularly feeding from them. A
special thanks to members Mícheál Ó Murchú, Caomhín Ó Conaill agus
Kerri Nic Eochagáin who monitor the feeders and don their wellies,
regardless of the weather, to refill weekly.

We must now think of the next generation of Gaelscoil’s wild birds and
so we will place boscaí neadaireachta/ nesting boxes around the school
over the coming weeks. We would greatly appreciate it if any of you
could make a nesting box for Gaelscoil. We realise that this is a more
challenging task but please feel free to give it a go! Please find
attached some useful web links with ideas and instructions on building
your own nesting box. In keeping with the values of An Coiste Glas
please use old, unused materials already in your garage. Thank you in

There was a great response to our comórtas grianghrafadóireachta /
photography competition ‘Cabhraigh Linn an Geimhreadh a Aimsiú’. The
following children took the winning photographs;
Junior Classes – Aaron Ó Niadh Rang a hAon, Nathan Ó Lóinín Rang a Dó
agus Dónal Ó Suilleabháin Rang a Trí.
Senior Classes – Claudia Breathnach, Lúcás Ó Gliasáin Alice Ní
Gliasáin all Rang a Ceathair.  Each received great prizes of lights
and locks for their bicycles and all senior winners received a framed
print of their fabulous photo.  Maith sibhse go léir.
